[ascl:2603.001] Stellarium: Planetarium for your computer
Stellarium renders realistic views of the night sky in real time as seen from a chosen location on Earth. It simulates the appearance and motion of stars, planets, satellites, and deep-sky objects, showing the sky as it would appear to the naked eye, through binoculars, or through a telescope. It draws on large built-in and optional catalogs, includes images of nebulae and the Milky Way, and renders atmospheric effects such as sunrise and sunset. The software supports multiple sky cultures, calendars, and constellation art, and offers coordinate grids, eclipse and supernova simulations, exoplanet locations, and ocular-view and dome projections for educational and planetarium use. Users control time, viewpoint, and zoom, add custom objects and landscapes, and extend capabilities via plugins for artificial satellites, telescope control, and other features.
